Calling to anyone who is teaching or studying about Sustainability Transitions!

The literature on sustainability transitions (STS) offers a wealth of frameworks and methods, but they are dispersed among diverse streams. So, it’s difficult to get a grasp of the different works to teach a class or select a framework to use in a research project. This is where our latest article (open access with Maria Tomai & George Papachristos!) could help you. It provides an introduction to the salient features of four prominent strands of sustainability transition frameworks: the Multi-level Perspective, the Technological Innovation Systems, the Mission-oriented Innovation Systems, and the Sustainability-oriented Innovation Systems. We also argue that the field seems to be driven more by academic trends than real-world policy needs, leading to gaps between research and practical application. That’s why we explore the potential of these existing sustainability framework to effectively guide sustainability efforts—from identifying challenges to evaluating the success of transition initiatives.
