For students

I would be interested in supervising dissertations related to sustainability transitions and how we can make them happen. I would be particularly interested if India or an Indian zone could be the location of one of the cases/contexts studied. These can relate to efforts by:

  • Government
  • Companies
  • Social sector actors
  • Community
  • Public-private partnerships

Sectors of interest are: water, sanitation, agro-based industries, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, biotech and nanotech.

Some problems of interest are:

– How are cities preparing to be climate resilient?

– What is meant by sustainability behaviour? How far can behavioural change help us become climate resilient?

– What kinds of frugal innovations are improving the quality of lives of the poor/vulnerable/marginalised communities?  How can their impact be improved?

– How is the dairy industry changing in Emerging Economies vis-a-vis Europe? What is the role of cooperatives in the dairy industry?

– What has the international  COVID vaccine diffusion revealed about the future of technological dependence of developing countries? Who are the main players in the vaccine race?

– How are the SDG targets and indicators on the SDGs (say SDG4, SDG6 and SDG 11)  being translated into national policies? To what extent can we believe in the data?

– Can unhooking from social media help individuals and organisations become more productive/profitable? How should time on social media be managed for productivity?

– What do fake news generators reveal about the power groups and the social-psychology of the main actors in a system? How can they be addressed?

Preference would be given to students taking the Social Entrepreneurship and Public Policy Track.
