After the tsunami of December 2004, Professor Ramani founded ‘Friend in Need’ – a charity in an isolated coastal village in India. Over time it has evolved to become a rural incubator to create qualified personnel to man local micro-enterprises active in sanitation coverage and waste management in rural India.
Her engagement as a development practitioner has had an enormous impact on her research and vice-versa.
